Last surviving leader of Turkey's 1980 coup dies: reports
Turkish former air force general Tahsin ?ahinkaya, the last surviving leader of the 1980 coup which led to military rule and left lasting scars on the country, died on Thursday. He was 90.
The putsch on September 12, 1980 was the bloodiest in Turkey's coup-ridden history, overthrowing a civilian government and putting in place a military junta that ruled Turkey for three years.

Statements by a veteran member of parliament, Republican People's Party's (CHP) Deniz Baykal, who recently lost his run for parliament speaker's office, led to disagreements over incidents leading up to the election of the speaker, which was finalized last week with the election of the Justice and Development Party's (AKP) candidate, ?smet Y?lmaz.

Ferry with 173 Capsizes in Central Philippines
At least 34 people are known to have drowned after a ferry carrying 173 passengers on board has capsized in rough waters in the central Philippines.
Most of the survivors were immediately rescued, but about 30 are missing, CNN quotes Philippine National Red Cross Chairman Richard Gordon as saying.
The vessel capsized just 200 m off the coast.

US, Cuba 'to Announce Reopening of Embassies'
The US and Cuba are to announce on Wednesday a move to reopen diplomatic missions in each other's capitals for the first time in over 50 years, international media outlets report.
This is a major step in the renewal of diplomatic ties which was initiated by US President Barack Obama also confirmed by Cuban couterpart Raul Castro in December 2014.

Taiwan Looking into Fire that Injured Hundreds
Colored powder is thought to have been behind the incident at an amusement park outside Taiwan's capital Taipei that left hundreds injured, officials say.
At least 83 have serious injuries as a result of the fire, and 132 have been left with minor body burns, according to the CNA news agency.
