An Athens court on Wednesday started hearing the appeal of two defendants who were both convicted in June last year to 13 years in prison for participation in a terrorist organization.

A protest by inmates at Attica's high-security Korydallos Prison ended on Tuesday after around five hours.

The protest, which involved convicted members of the guerrilla group Conspiracy of the Cells of Fire, was held to express solidarity with Constantinos Giagtzoglou, the 29-year-old terrorist suspect who was transferred from Korydallos to a Larissa penitentiary on Saturday.

A 29-year-old man who was arrested in the early hours of Saturday in central Athens on suspicion of having sent the letter bombs that injured former premier Lucas Papademos in May and an employee at the International Monetary Fund's office in Paris in March, was allegedly in the process of clearing guns and explosives from a safe house.

Tension between anti-establishment protesters and police has been growing over the continued incarceration of a PhD student and her 33-year-old co-defendant after their conviction in June to 13 years in prison for their involvement with the urban guerrilla group Conspiracy of the Cells of Fire.
