For the first time since joining the EU on January 1, 2007, Romania has taken over the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Prime Minister Viorica Dancila had a meeting with European Commissioners in Brussels on Wednesday, assuring them that Romania is fully prepared to take over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU) on January 1, 2019, according to a press statement released by the Romanian government.

Romania maintains its conviction that it meets the requirements for lifting the Co-operation and Verification Mechanism (CVM), "in the context in which, as full EU member state for more than ten years, it has continuously proved a constructive approach in respect to meeting the justice-related objectives," reads a Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) response sent at AGERPRES' request.
