The Republika Srpska Construction Inspection has banned Delta Real Estate, owned by Serbian businessman Miroslav Miskovic, from further construction of the huge "Delta Planet" shopping centre in Banja Luka, the administrative centre of Bosnia's mainly Serbian entity, and ordered it to demolish two illegally built floors within two months.

BELGRADE - The Belgrade Court of Appeals has acquitted Delta Holding owner Miroslav Miskovic of charges of fraud against road maintenance companies, throwing out a part of a first-instance ruling handing him five years in prison and an 8 mln dinar fine for assisting his son Marko in an approx. 3 mln euro withholding tax evasion.

Miroslav Miskovic was on Wednesday acquitted on charges of financial abuses involving road maintenance companies.

The final verdict passed by the Court of Appeals in Belgrade also ordered that he face retrial on charges of tax evasion.

A former judge who controversially returned a passport to the Serbian tycoon Miroslav Miskovic, so that he could travel to the UK, has welcomed the decision of the High Judicial Council to withdraw the public warning it issued to him in 2015.

BELGRADE - Deputy Prosecutor Tamara Ristic sought on Thursday a 12-year prison sentence for the owner of Delta Holding, Miroslav Miskovic, for tax evasion and misuse of office, underlining that he siphoned off EUR 30 million from road maintenance companies.

The deputy prosecutor also urged the special court to fine Miskovic, but did not specify the sum.

Zoran Stojiljkovic, head of Serbia's Anti-Corruption Agency, told BIRN that there are no objective indications that corruption was decreasing in Serbia even though the ruling Progressive Party won a decisive election in 2012 on an anti-corruption manifesto.

The Special Court in Belgrade on Friday found Marko Miskovic guilty of tax evasion and sentenced him to 3.5 years in jail.

Miskovic is the son of Miroslav Miskovic, the owner of Delta Holding.

Delta Holding owner to turn to European Court

BELGRADE -- The defense of Miroslav Mišković will submit an application to the European Court of Human Rights due to the "excessive load" on their client.

Judge refuses to give passport back to Delta owner

BELGRADE -- Judge Vladimir Vučinić has rejected Miroslav Mišković's request to have his passport permanently returned and be allowed to leave his place of residence.
