For the fourth consecutive day, efforts continue to restore power to over 100 settlements across Bulgaria, where wet snow from Christmas has caused widespread outages. Thousands of families in the Gabrovo region remain without electricity, with around 50 villages affected in the municipality and about 100 in the broader area.

Increased consumption of electricity was registered in Bulgaria during the weekend because of the sudden drop in temperatures, the energy system operator said on February 15.

Despite the high demand, it did not become necessary to activate additional capacities.

This became clear from a published report by the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (KEVR), quoted by NOVA TV.

A jump in the price of electricity by an average of 3.48% is proposed by the Commission for Energy and Water Regulation.

The accounts show that the electricity price for subscribers in Southeastern Bulgaria could be the most expensive - 3.59 per cent.

The Energy and Water Regulatory Commission will not allow a drastic increase in electricity, assured the head of the regulator Ivan Ivanov. He predicts that the 1 July increase will be within inflation - about 3.6%.

Yesterday, energy companies have requested an increase ranging from 2% for the day to over 50% of the night.

The Ministry of Energy (ME) and the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (KEVR) are starting two urgent measures to stabilize the prices of the industrial electricity traded on the energy exchange.

The electricity distribution companies in Bulgaria CEZ, EVN and Energo Pro have submitted applications to the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) requesting 8% to 20% increase in the prices of electricity as of 1st of July, the regulator said on 17th of April.
