Japanese conglomerate Mitsui intends to create an extensive network of seaplane services in western Greece in cooperation with Hellenic Water Airports, starting in the spring, following test flights in the last few days off between Corfu and nearby Ionian islands.

In the yard in front of the old three-story school in Syrrako, a cafe now welcomes visitors for a cup of coffee or something stronger. In Vourgareli – the once kefalohori (or ‘head-village’) of Ottoman beys and local herdsmen, the entrance to the headquarters of the legendary resistance figure Napoleon Zervas may be overgrown with weeds, but curtains still hang in the windows.

During the morning hours of Saturday October 7th a severe deterioration of the weather is expected from the northwest.

The phenomena will include:

1. Strong rainfall and storms and in some areas even hail.

The areas effected will be central and eastern Macedonia, Thrace, the islands at the north and east Aegean and possibly the Dodecanese.

The Greek Meteorological Services (EMY) has issued a weather bulletin forecasting a sudden turn of conditions with topical storms and heavy rains hitting western Greece Monday. The phenomena are expected to start midday and last till Monday night. The areas expected to bear the brunt of the weather phenomena are the Ionian islands, Epirus, western mainland Greece and central Macedonia.
