World food prices hit an all-time high in March as Russia's invasion of breadbasket Ukraine has disrupted wheat and coarse grain exports, the United Nation's Food and Agriculture Organization said on April 8.

The FAO's food price index surged by 12.6 percent between February and March, "making a giant leap to a new highest level since its inception in 1990," said the FAO.

Water is at the core of our existence. From an agriculture perspective, water is the essence of the food we grow. The world's food systems depend on the planet's water systems. Many global challenges, however, are threatening the sustainability of our water resources leading to water stress and scarcity and therefore impeding our efforts to attain food security.

The agenda on food security and agriculture, as well as fight against climate change, hunger and poverty, can only be implemented through a global cooperation, according to the director of The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, José Graziano da Silva.
