5-star rating puts Istanbul Airport in top world league
Istanbul Airport gained top global recognition on Dec. 15 by being named a 5-star airport by London-based air transport rating agency Skytrax, the mega-airport said in a statement.
Istanbul Airport boasts 64 mln passengers over last year
After operations were transferred from Ataturk Airport to the new Istanbul Airport, the new mega-airport served 64 million passengers in a nearly one-year period, from April 2019 to the end of this March, according to the airport operator.

Passengers stranded at Istanbul airport sent to another city
More than 1,500 passengers, mostly from Algeria, Tunisia and Jordan, who have been stranded at Istanbul Airport, have been transferred to an emptied student dormitory in the northern province of Karabük.
Those passengers have been stuck at the airport for days after their countries closed airspace and flights were canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic.
CEO praises performance of Istanbul Airport
Runways and other facilities at the mega Istanbul Airport are designed to serve passengers and airplanes at best performance, Kadri Samsunlu, CEO of İGA, which operated the city's new airport, has said in an interview.
Samsunlu dismissed suggestions that wind in the area where the airport is located, may cause problems.

UK magazine names Istanbul Airport as 'Airport of Year'
The Istanbul Airport was named as the "Airport of the Year" by readers of a U.K.-based magazine, the airport operator firm IGA announced on Nov. 5.
Istanbul Airport tests automated passport control
Turkey's General Directorate of Security and İGA, the group which built and will operate Istanbul Airport for 25 years, will soon introduce an automated passport control system at the mega airport to get passengers to go through customs faster.

Istanbul's third airport firm signs 250-mln euro service deals
Istanbul Grand Airport (İGA), the operator of Istanbul's under-construction third airport, stated on July 11 that it had inked cargo and service deals with six companies worth a total of 250 million euros.
