Out-of-order traffic signs aggravate congestion in Athens

Inoperative variable-message signs (VMSs) have aggravated traffic congestion on the Greek capital's road network, Kathimerini understands.

Controlled by the Infrastructure Ministry's Traffic Management Center, the 24 VMSs are supposed to provide drivers with real-time roadway communication and help to improve safety and ease traffic congestion.

Supermarket sector sees turnover decline and more concentration

Greece?s supermarket and cash and carry sector has declined at an annual rate of 3.7 percent over the last four years, hit ? albeit to a lesser degree than other domains in the country?s economy ? by the financial crisis and a drop in demand, according to an annual survey conducted by ICAP.

Istanbul to host international conference on air and space power

Most sectors suffered big losses in 2013

According to figures from ICAP?s annual ?Greece in Numbers? survey that Kathimerini has seen, Greek businesses suffered another loss-making year in 2013 as the nine biggest sectors (excluding banks) were hit with pretax losses of 850 million euros, although this was a far cry from the 2.63 billion euros in losses generated in 2012.

EU Commission charges three banks with rigging

European Union antitrust regulators charged Europe's biggest bank HSBC, US peer JPMorgan and France's Credit Agricole on Tuesday with rigging financial benchmarks linked to the euro, exposing them to potential fines.

The European Commission also said it would charge broker ICAP soon for suspected manipulation of the yen Libor financial benchmark.
