Kurdistan Regional Government

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) flag was raised at Istanbul's Atatürk Airport on Feb. 26 for the official visit of the leader of the autonomous Iraqi region.

The Kurdistan Regional Government has challenged Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi to deliver on an offer to pay the cash-strapped region's bloated public payroll, suggesting the proposal had not been made in good faith. Abadi said in a televised interview earlier this week that he was prepared to cover the KRG payroll as long as it stopped exporting oil independently. 

Iraq's autonomous Kurdish region said on Feb. 17 that it would halt independent oil sales if Baghdad pays its employees, but cast doubt on the federal government's ability to implement the proposal.

Iraq's Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) said on Aug. 3 it would pay a portion of its revenue from direct crude oil sales to producers, in an apparent attempt to reassure foreign oil companies operating in the northern region.

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has begun selling crude oil from the region and Kirkuk independently and will receive payments without going through Baghdad, a Kurdish MP said in the Iraqi Parliament on July 8, according to media organization Rudaw. 

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) announced it is meeting investors in London this week, with an eye to a "potential transaction in the near future."
