Bulgarian Watchdog Vows No Power Price Hikes, Supply Disruptions

Bulgaria's State Commission for Energy and Water Regulation (DKEVR) has assured that a possible suspension of the licenses of local power distributors will not affect consumers.

DKEVR member Elenko Bozhkov explained Sunday that there were no reasons to worry about price hikes or power supply disruptions as a result of such a move.

Bulgarian Energy Watchdog to Cancel Permits of Power Distributors

Bulgaria's energy watchdog DKEVR has launched a procedure to suspend the license of power distributors in the country.

The State Commission for Water and Energy Regulation (what the abbreviation "DKEVR" stands for) is to terminate permits of EVN Bulgaria, CEZ Electro Bulgaria and Energo-PRO, officials have announced, citing "threats to energy security" as a reason.

EVN, Energo-Pro Fined BGN 1 M Each, CEZ To Follow Suit

The State Commission for Energy and Water Regulation (DKEVR) fined the power distributors EVN and Energo-Pro BGN 1 M each, said the commission's head Boyan Boev. 

The penalties are the highest possible. By the end of the week the third power distributor in Bulgaria, CEZ, will also be fined with the same sum. 

Bulgarian Photovoltaic Association Proposes Energy Board

The Bulgarian Photovoltaic Association (BPVA) has proposed the establishment of an energy board for the financial stabilization and restructuring of the energy sector.

Meglena Rusenova, BPVA Chair, explained Monday that the proposal had been triggered by the processes taking place in the energy sector over the past few days.

Power Distributors in Bulgaria Threatened with Nationalization

Bulgarian Energy Minister Dragomir Stoynev has warned power distributors that they may face nationalization unless they pay debts to the National Electric Company (NEK).

Speaking Monday in Plovdiv, Stoynev noted that CEZ, EVN and Energo-Pro, the three power distributors operating in the country, had to pay their debts of over BGN 318 M to the financially troubled NEK.
