Euroleague Basketball suspends its games for now

The Euroleague announced on Thursday the suspension of all its tournaments, i.e. its main competition, the Eurocup and the Next Generation Euroleague, with immediate effect.

The decision, that applies indefinitely, followed the diagnosis of a Real Madrid player with coronavirus, and the suspension of the NBA in the US.

Greece tops its Eurobasket qualification group

Greece made it two out of two in the Eurobasket 2021 qualifiers using players who are not involved in the Euroleague or the NBA, and is looking good to qualify from its group of four.

On Friday Greece defeated visiting Bulgaria 73-63 in Patra, in what was arguably its easiest game in the pool, before defeating Bosnia Herzegovina on Monday 70-65 at Tuzla.

Turkish cultural center inks deal with NBA team

Turkey's state-run cultural agency Yunus Emre Institute announced on Jan. 29 that it has signed a deal with NBA team Cleveland Cavaliers to promote Turkish culture.

"We are truly honored to sign an agreement with Cleveland Cavaliers @cavs in terms of promoting Turkish culture," Halid Bulut, director of Yunus Emre's Washington D.C. office, said on Twitter.

'Prayers with you': NBA remembers Turkey quake victims

NBA in a game on Jan. 29 between Cleveland Cavaliers and New Orleans Pelicans commemorated the victims of a recent deadly earthquake in Turkey.

Electronic billboards displayed: "Our Prayers are with you Elazığ and Malatya", referring to the eastern provinces of Turkey where a 6.8-magnitude quake claimed 41 lives and injured more than a thousand others.
