A Turkish professor was elected as a member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, one of the world's most distinguished science institutions.
İvet Bahar from the University of Pittsburgh, who worked on pharmaceutical designs, succeeded in being the first Turkish woman to be chosen to be a member of the 157-year-old academy.
From a literature award to journalists in prison
The Orhan Kemal Novel Award has been one of the most - perhaps the most - prestigious literary awards in Turkey since it was established by the family of the social-realist novelist after his passing in 1970. For example, the star of Turkey's only Nobel literature laureate, Orhan Pamuk, who won in 2006, started to rise after he received the Orhan Kemal Award in 1983.

$380 billion Saudi-US agreements
U.S. President Donald Trump signed a series of agreements amounting to $380 billion in his Saudi Arabia visit. He did not refer to any of the Islamophobic speeches we frequently heard during his election campaign.
The U.S., Israel, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Gulf countries are in a very strong alliance. On the other hand, there is the Russia, Iran and Syria bond.

Orhan Pamuk makes Man Booker International shortlist
"A Strangeness in My Mind" by Turkey's Nobel laureate writer Orhan Pamuk is among the six books shortlisted for the Man Booker International Prize for literature announced on April 14. The longlist for the prize included books from 155 writers from 12 countries in nine different languages.
