An Israeli strike on Damascus killed five people in a building where "Iran-aligned leaders" were meeting on Saturday, a war monitor said, as regional tensions soar over the Israel-Hamas war.

At least eight fighters of the pro-Iranian paramilitary Hashd al-Shaabi have been killed in eastern Syria, the Observatory said.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that the planes targeted positions belonging to pro-Iranian militias in the Boukamal area, near the border with Iraq.

Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) fighters have launched a new phase in the Euphrates Shield Operation to liberate Aleppo's northeastern district of al-Bab from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). 

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group jihadists have seized a string of opposition-held villages in Syria's Aleppo province near the Turkish border, a monitoring group said on April 14.

Syrian state television said government forces fought their way into Palmyra on March 24 as the army backed by Russian air cover sought to recapture the historic city from Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants.

At least 38 people were killed in air strikes carried out by a U.S.-led coalition in Hasakeh province in northeast Syria in the past two days, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group said on Feb. 18. 

The toll included at least 15 people who were killed when strikes hit a bakery in the city of al-Shadadi near the border with Iraq, the Britain-based Observatory said. 

More than 500 people, including dozens of civilians, have been killed since a major Russian-backed regime offensive in Syria's Aleppo province began this month, a monitor said Feb. 10.

Air raids by Syrian government warplanes killed 28 civilians, including 10 children, near Damascus on Dec. 24, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitor said.

Buses carrying Syrian rebel fighters and their families safely reached the northwestern city of Idlib on Dec. 10 after withdrawing from Homs under a local ceasefire agreement, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.
