Slovenia’s joblessness keeps falling
Ljubljana – A total of 70,655 people were registered as unemployed in Slovenia in July, a decline of 0.6% from June and down as much as 21% from July 2020, according to a report released by the Employment Service.
The total kept falling despite the number of the newly registered rising by 54% from June to 5,443. The latter figure was still nearly 34% bellow last year’s.

Left wants govt to prevent layoffs at companies on job-saving state aid
Ljubljana – The opposition Left wants the government to introduce safety mechanisms to prevent layoffs at companies which are receiving emergency coronavirus state aid to preserve jobs during the coronavirus pandemic.
Weiler Abrasives with relatively good year in 2020
Maribor – Weiler Abrasives, a maker of abrasives and technical textiles, saw production decline by more than 10% last year due to the pandemic, generating about EUR 66 million in revenue. Given the situation, a decrease in profit was relatively small compared to 2019.

Počivalšek visits Safilo as Ormož plant is slated for closure
Ormož – Economy Minister Zdravko Počivalšek visited on Friday the Ormož eyewear production plant of Italian group Safilo, which is slated for shut-down at the expense of almost 560 jobs, to talk with the management about solutions for the employees. He said the government would do everything in its power to resolve the situation.
Year into office, govt pledges to fight Covid on, implement coalition agreement
Brdo pri Kranju – Prime Minister Janez Janša pledged for the government to respond to a third wave of the coronavirus epidemic, which he said could realistically be expected, and implement key commitments in the coalition agreement, as he addressed reporters with the other coalition leaders a day before a year will have passed since his government assumed office.
Italian group Safilo to close Ormož plant
Ormož – The Italian group Safilo announced on Thursday that it intends to shut down its eyewear production plant in Ormož in the north-east of Slovenia in June to adjust production capacities to meet changing demand. A total of 557 workers will lose their jobs, the group added.
