Russian fighter jet shot down, pilot killed in Syria’s Idlib
A Russian Sukhoi-25 ground-attack aircraft was shot down in Syria’s northwestern province of Idlib on Feb. 3, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

NATO jet 'buzzed' Russian cargo plane
A plane carrying Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu was buzzed by a NATO F-16 fighter jet as it flew over the Baltic Sea, but was seen off by a Russian Sukhoi-27 military jet, Russian news agencies reported on June 21.
The F-16 had tried to approach the aircraft carrying the defense minister even though it was flying over neutral waters, agencies said.

UK urges Russia to end Assad support
Russia must end "blind support" for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and help find a political solution to the six-year Syrian civil war, British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said April 18.
In an address to parliament, Johnson told MPs that the U.K. could join the U.S. in airstrikes against the Assad regime.

Turkey dismisses Russian spokeswoman's 'Ottoman' comment
A senior Turkish official dismissed on May 5 a Russian spokeswoman's comments regarding what she called the "destructive role of the Turkish government" on various issues.
Maria Zakharova, the official spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, told daily Izvestia on May 4 that Turkey was "striving to restore the previous might of the Ottoman Empire in one way or another."
Russia says one of its attack helicopters crashes in Syria
A Russian Mi-28N Night Hunter attack helicopter crashed in Syria in the early on April 12 killing both pilots, Russia's Defence Ministry said.
The ministry said the helicopter, which crashed in Homs province, had not been shot down, but the cause of the incident was unclear.
Islamist rebels shoot down Syrian warplane, capture pilot: monitor
Syrian insurgents shot down a government warplane in the north of the country April 5 and shelled a predominantly Kurdish neighborhood in the city of Aleppo, killing at least nine people, opposition monitoring groups and state media said.
