Iran will provide "detailed responses" to accusations by a UN expert over Tehran's accidental downing last year of a Ukrainian passenger jet, the foreign ministry said Wednesday.

On January 8, 2020, Ukraine International Airlines flight PS752 crashed shortly after take off from Iran's capital Tehran killing all 176 people aboard, including 55 Canadians.

Iran has agreed to send black boxes from a downed Ukrainian jetliner to Kiev for analysis, an Iranian official said on March 11, a move that would end a two-month standoff over the recordings from the jet.   

Iran said on Jan. 14 it had arrested people accused of a role in shooting down a Ukrainian airliner and had also detained 30 people involved in protests that have swept the nation for four days since the military belatedly admitted its error.

Iranian protesters and newspapers piled pressure on the country's leadership and riot police stepped up their presence in Tehran on Jan. 12 after Iran's military admitted that it had mistakenly shot down a Ukrainian airliner.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Jan. 8 it was a "somber day" after a plane leaving from an airport in Iran crashed shortly after takeoff, killing all 176 people on board, including 63 Canadians.

On video carried live by Canadian news services, Trudeau addressed the tragedy.

The Greek Foreign Ministry has issued a message to extend condolences to the families of the victims after a Ukrainian Boeing-737 carrying 176 people crashed in Iran early Wednesday.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) sends its condolences to the families of the victims aboard the Ukrainian plane which crashed in Teheran, reads a message posted on the Twitter page of the Ministry.
