Turkey's ban on online encyclopaedia Wikipedia is set to be lifted after the official publication on Wednesday of a Constitutional Court ruling that the more than two-year block was a violation of freedom of expression.

Wikipedia is open for improvement by anyone around the world and should be open to editors in Turkey, the Wikimedia Foundation has stated in a letter addressed to the government of Turkey, where the website has been banned for over one year.

The Wikimedia Foundation decided to discontinue the free-of-charge Wikipedia Zero service for emerging markets, said engadget.com.

A "pirate" website for the online encyclopedia Wikipedia has been launched in Turkey, five months after the website was banned in the country.

With its domain name registered in the capital Ankara, the mirror website "www.turkcewikipedia.org" contains all the content of Wikipedia in both English and Turkish.
