Crumbling homes offered for sky-high rents in Istanbul

As Istanbul's rental market continues to surge, even the most rundown homes are attracting high prices, leaving many potential tenants shocked by the living conditions on offer.

Basement homes without daylight, damp walls, broken cabinets and unsanitary kitchens and bathrooms are being listed for as much as 10,000 Turkish Liras (around $290).

The Banka-Han building, also knowns as the Guiffray Inn, where the first economic congress was held in 1923, was demolished in 1979 and turned into a parking lot.

3,350 houses sold to foreigners in Türkiye in February

House sales to foreigners in Türkiye decreased by 27.0 percent in February compared to the same month last year, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) announced on March 15.

A total of 3,350 houses were sold to foreigners last month, accounting for 4.2 percent of the country's total house sales of 80,031.

Woman spreads message of ‘nonviolence’ through wall art

Nation rushes to florists to celebrate Mother’s Day

Florists saw one of the busiest days of the year as Turkey marked Mother's Day on May 8.

Like most other countries in the world, Turkey celebrates Mother's Day on the second Sunday of May every year.

"Customers usually prefer wild flowers, such as carnations and daisies, on this day," said Yıldız Çalıoğlu, who is running a florist shop in Istanbul's Taksim Square.
