Domestic potato production decline drives up prices amid increased imports
Domestic production of potatoes has plunged in recent years, and imports, mainly from Cyprus and Egypt, have risen, sending the prices much higher.
In 2023, the area under cultivation was barely over 12,000 hectares, about a third of the 2006 figure.
Prices have risen more than 55% since 2015.
