The World Economic Forum recently released its Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report, which analyses the state of the travel and tourism sectors in 136 countries.
These are the 10 most violent cities (photos)
Of the 50 cities on the list, 43 are in Latin America, including 19 in Brazil, eight in Mexico, and seven in Venezuela.
The region’s violence is in large part drug related, driven by traffickers and supplemented by gang wars, political instability, and widespread poverty that has been exacerbated by sluggish economic growth or economic reversals.

According to UN’s data, the average murder rate in El Salvador is 10 murders per day. This makes the country one of the world’s most violent ones.

BELGRADE - A 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck off the Pacific coast of Central America. It was felt in several countries across the region. The US Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami warning.
"Hazardous" tsumani waves are possible within 300km of the quake epicenter along the coasts of Nicaragua, El Salvador and Honduras, the Center specified.
Nicaragua's Ortega wins third straight term, with wife
Nicaragua's leftist President Daniel Ortega has won a third straight term, with his wife Rosario Murillo as vice president, results showed Nov. 7, but the opposition and the United States condemned the election.
With 99.8 percent of ballots counted, the 70-year-old former Marxist rebel had 72.5 percent of the vote, the country's Supreme Electoral Council said, AFP reported.
