UN court tells Turkey to release detained judge

A United Nations court on Jan. 31 ordered Turkey to release a judge detained in a crackdown after last year's failed coup attempt so that he can resume his work on an appeals case.

Turkey was "ordered to cease all legal proceedings against Judge Aydın Sefa Akay and to take all necessary measures to ensure his release... no later than 14 February," the tribunal said.

Vucic: Contact with Trump's office could be established soon

BELGRADE - Serbian PM Aleksandar Vucic said Monday his recent visit to Abu Dhabi had included meetings with advisers to US president-elect Donald Trump, and added that he was expecting to soon establish contact with Trump's office and with Trump himself.

Vucic was responding to media speculations that he had travelled to Abu Dhabi to attend a Formula 1 race.

A leading U.N. war crimes judge on Nov. 9 called on Turkey to free one of its justices who was arrested in September as part of an investigation into the July 15 failed coup attempt.
The detention of Aydın Sefa Akay, 66, has paralyzed an appeals hearing in Rwanda, judge Theodor Meron, the president of the United Nations' Mechanism for International Tribunals, told the United Nations.

Exporters call on envoys from 73 countries to spread Turkey's devotion to democracy

The Turkish Exporters' Assembly (TİM) has called for some 181 envoys and civil servants from 73 countries across the globe to talk about Turkey's devotion to democratic rule and robust economy in their countries and to boost cooperation with Turkey during a three-day meeting hosted in the Aegean province of Çanakkale on Sept. 2-4, the association said in a statement.
