Dubai's giant highways were clogged by flooding and airport passengers were urged to stay away on April 17, as the glitzy financial center reeled from record rains.

Huge tailbacks snaked along six-lane expressways after up to 254 millimeters of rain, about two years' worth, fell on the desert United Arab Emirates on April 16.

Iran Guards seize vessel 'related' to Israel in Gulf: state media

Iran's Revolutionary Guards on Saturday seized a container ship "related to the Zionist regime (Israel) in the Gulf," state media reported, as tensions soar in the region.

"A container ship named 'MCS Aries' was seized by the Sepah (Guards) Navy Special Forces by carrying out a heliborne operation," IRNA state news agency reported.

Turkish corvette sets sail for Japan in tribute to historic voyage

The Turkish corvette TCG Kınalıada embarks on an expedition to the Far East on April 8, retracing the route of the ill-fated frigate Ertuğrul, which sank en route from Japan in 1890.

The voyage also marks the centennial milestone of diplomatic ties between Türkiye and Japan.
