The 23rd World Energy Congress 2016, which will bring together more than 10,000 participants from 85 countries, including 250 ministers and top decision-makers in energy, started in Istanbul on Oct. 9. 

A draft agreement with the United Arab Emirates has been approved that allow for for economic and technical cooperation as a basis for future negotiations, the Bulgarian cabinet has said.

Under the document adopted Tuesday, the countries will work to promote the role of small and medium enterprises in economic relations.

In what may be seen as a big boost for India's policy towards West Asia, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE armed forces Mohammed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahyan has confirmed his participation in the Republic Day Parade in New Delhi as a chief guest on January 26, 2017.

A Saudi-led force in Yemen said it rescued passengers on Oct. 1 from a vessel being used by the United Arab Emirates military that was attacked by Houthi fighters in a strategic Red Sea shipping lane. 
 

Turkish Defense Minister Fikri Işık has called for further enhancement of defense ties between Turkey and Azerbaijan, speaking to reporters in Baku after a meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart Zahir Hasanov.

Serbia's opposition Democratic Party, DS, has filed a draft law seeking termination of the agreement on cooperation between Belgrade and the United Arab Emirates, UAE, signed in February 2013, claiming it is unconstitutional and damages the public interest.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu is to attend a meeting in London, in which the future of Syria will be discussed amid an ongoing operation into its southern neighbor to push jihadists off the Turkish border. 

"Our minister will attend the meeting on Syria under British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson on Sept. 7," read a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry on Sept. 6. 

332,000 Greeks have emigrated abroad between 2010 and 2015 to find better work opportunities, according to official data released by the Greek Foreign Ministry services. The real numbers are believed to be higher, as Greek nationals are not obliged to register to Greek embassies and consulates abroad once they arrive.

If necessity is the mother of invention, eight years of a crippling recession and dwindling work prospects has compelled at least some Greeks to reboot, switch professions and innovate to survive.
