Turkey is considering employing foreign doctors in order to fill vacancies in public hospitals, with Greek professionals being one of their main targets, Health Minister Mehmet Müezzinoğlu has said.

Turkey’s Deputy Prime Minister Bülent Arınç has defended his claim that his recent criticism against women “laughing” was interpreted out of context, while slamming women “who go for a vacation without their husbands and who can’t wait to climb poles when they see one.”

Turkey’s President Abdullah Gül has sent a condolence message to Afghan President Hamid Karzai whose cousin, a close ally of presidential candidate Ashraf Ghani, was killed in a suicide bomb attack on July 29.

In his message, Gül expressed his sadness to have learned that Hashmat Karzai was killed in a terrorist attack in Kandahar, Anadolu Agency reported July 30.

The Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahçeli has told his party’s Istanbul branch that they need to “re-conquer” the Turkish metropolitan.

Speaking in an event to mark Eid al-Fitr on July 29, Bahçeli said his party should reign in Turkey’s most populated city, which is currently held by the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP).

The main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) has called on the Workers’ Party (İP) to support the opposition’s joint presidential candidate, Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu.

The call came as representatives from political parties exchanged greetings for Eid al-Fitr.

Tehran -- Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has accused Israel of committing "genocide" in the Gaza Strip.

He on Tuesday called on the Islamic world to arm Palestinians fighting "the Zionist regime," AFP reported.

Women should not laugh out loud in public, Deputy Prime Minister Bülent Arınç has said while complaining about “moral corruption” in Turkey.

Speaking during an Eid el-Fitr meeting on July 28, Arınç described his ideal of the chaste man or woman, saying they should both have a sense of shame and honor.

The mobile phones of suspect police officers, who were being questioned at an Istanbul court over wiretapping claims, were confiscated on July 28.
