Romania is a working people's country, says PM Ponta in May 1 message

Prime minister, Victor Ponta says in a message on Friday, on the occasion of the International Labour Day, that 'Romania is a working people's country, and the solution for an economy that would bring prosperity to all (...) is to support all of those who are working.'

Government works, trade unions rally, crowds picnic

BELGRADE - The International Labor Day, May 1, was marked actively by the government of Serbia - with a session and the decision to start workdays in the public sector one hour earlier, the trade unions staged rallies to draw attention to the position of workers in Serbia, while many went to traditional early morning picnics and barbecues.

Macedonia's Main Union Snubs Mayday Protests

The leftist Solidarnost (Solidarity) movement, the Lenka movement for social justice, as well as the Independent Union of Journalists and Media Workers, SSNM, are among a few unions that plan to use May 1, international labour day, to hold protests in Macedonia.

The Confederation of Trade Unions of Macedonia, KSOM, has also joined the call to join Mayday protests.
