UNHCR: Syrian Refugees Top 3 Million

Over 3 million people have fled the civil war in Syria, according to reports of the United Nations refugee agency.

Antonio Guterres, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), called the crisis "the biggest humanitarian emergency of our era" in a Friday statement.

According to the press release, almost half of all Syrians have been forced to abandon their homes.

Bulgaria's Police Busts Fake Passports Ring

Bulgaria's Interior Ministry prevented the production and export of 10 000 fake Syrian passports to Turkey, said the ministry's Chief Secretary Svetlozar Lazarov in Plovdiv. 

The production and distribution of the fake documents was organised by a Bulgarian citizen in two printing houses in Plovdiv. 

Six people, including the printers, were arrested.

Women, men swim together to protest Antalya women’s only beach

A group of people, including female and male members of Antalya People’s House (Halkevi), swam together on Aug. 24 to protest the city’s new women’s only beach.

The group gathered at a picnic area next to the Sarısu beach which has been opened with a ceremony by Antalya Municipality after being converted into a free-of-charge, women’s only beach.  

Heroin Worth BGN 3M Seized at Bulgarian – Turkish Border

Bulgaria’s Customs Agency said on Friday it has seized heroin worth BGN 3M at Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint, at the border with Turkey.

A total of 60 packs of heroin were hidden in a Bulgarian-registered van that traveled to Bulgaria from Turkey. The total amount of the seized drug is 31.380 kg, Nova Tv reports.

The car driver, who is a Bulgarian citizen, was taken into custody.
