Udovicki: New legislation needed to speed up reforms

BELGRADE - Serbia needs to carry out reforms and adopt legislation and by-laws that would accelerate them, Kori Udovicki, Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State Administration and Local Self-Government, has said during a meeting with the head of the Council of Europe (CoE) mission to Serbia, adding that projects for implementing those reforms are welcome.

Udovicki and CoE Mission Head Antje Rotemund on Friday discussed future cooperation between the mission and the Ministry of State Administration and Local Self-Government, said a statement from Udovicki's office.

In collaboration with previous government ministries responsible for state administration and local self-government, the CoE has initiated preparations for the Support to Public Administration Reform IPA 2012 project, aimed at improving human resource management systems in local self-government units.

The project would provide professional training for local officials, as well as training for local self-governments for implementing provisions of the act on local self-government employees, to be worked on this year.
