Istanbul Atatürk Airport breaks new record with 1,454 takeoffs and landings

Istanbul Atatürk Airport witnessed a total of 1,454 takeoffs and landings from its runways, setting a new air traffic record for the airport on Sept. 4, Doğan News Agency has reported.

A total of 1,454 takeoffs and landings took place at the airport on Sept. 4, breaking its previous record from July 10 which was 1,443 takeoffs and landings, according to officials from the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMİ).

A total of 141,269 people also entered and checked out from the airport as passengers on Sept. 4, according to officials.

On July 10, the number of passengers who entered and checked out from the airport was 142,002.

However, the same figures remained at 1,403 takeoffs and landings on July 24, 2015, with 150,148 passengers at the airport.

Meanwhile, authorities said they expected the airport to break more records during the nine-day Eid al-Adha holiday at a time when thousands of Turks traditionally travel to their hometowns to spend time with their families.
