Austrians To Vote for President

Voters in Austria will have to determine on Sunday who their new head of state will be.

For the first time since World War II, there is real possibility for the president of a Western democracy to belong to the far right.

A victory by Norbert Hofer will be interpreted as a continuation of the populist wave started by dissatisfaction with the elites. The biggest achievement of this wave was the victory of Donald Trump in the USA.

In May, Hofer lost with a result of 49.65%. The court discovered discrepancies in the votes sent by mail and ordered a repeat of the run-off between Hofer and the former leader of the Greens Alexander Van der Bellen.
