Mircea Geoana pays working visit to Washington, has meeting with Victoria Nuland on agenda

Social Democratic Party (PSD) Senator Mircea Geoana will be paying Saturday through Thursday a working visit to Washington, where he will talk with US officials about the introduction of the 'Romania Gateway' project in the strategy of the US State Department concerning the New Silk Road, according to a release remitted to AGERPRES.

'The interest of the US side in its allies in the region, in Romania, in particular, consists of strengthening our country's capacity of dealing with strategic pressures, deriving from the imperialist outbreak of the Russian Federation, in a complex moment in the extended Middle East — strengthening the rule of law institutions, making economy more dynamic and ensuring the security of the NATO space, in the broad sense of the word,' Mircea Geoana said.

Senator Mircea Geoana's working visit to Washington takes place at the invitation of the US State Department. On this occasion, he will have a series of meetings with Victoria Nuland, Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs at the United States Department of State; Hoyt Yee, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs; Celeste Wallander, Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Russia and Eurasia on the National Security Council; Stanley Fischer, the vice chair of the U.S. Federal Reserve System; John Engler, US Business Roundtable Chairman; and Eric Stewart, Romanian-US Business Council Chairman, representatives of the World Bank management and of some universities and renowned think-tanks of the US capital.
