BIRODI calls for access to information of public importance

BELGRADE - The Bureau for Social Research (BIRODI) stated that a process was launched on Friday to monitor the proactive approach to the realization of the rights to free access to information of public importance.

BIRODI will request from the state bodies to provide information in the form of databases that can be searched electronically and which are relevant for monitoring of the social, political, legal, cultural and economic processes.

The databases will be statistically analyzed, and the analyses will be brought to the public eye, reads the statement by BIRODI, a think-tank organization.

BIRODI hopes that it will be possible to carry out a statistical analysis of the databases, which will be used in the assessment of the privatization processes.

The Bureau sent a request to the Privatization Agency on February 10 asking for the information on all privatizations that have been carried out since 2001 to be delivered in the form of databases which can be searched electronically.

Such databases are important for the fight against corruption, the Bureau said.
