Milan Lukic transferred to Estonia to serve sentence

THE HAGUE - Serb from Bosnia-Herzegovina (BiH) Milan Lukic who was sentenced for war crimes before the International Criminal Tribunal for former Yugoslavia (ICTY) has been transferred to Estonia where he will serve his prison sentence, the ICTY released.

The ICTY Trial Chamber sentenced Lukic to prison for life on July 20, 2009, and the Appeal Chamber confirmed the ruling on December 4, 2012.

Lukic was convicted for crimes against humanity and violation of laws and customs of warfare committed in Visegrad during the 1992-1995 conflicts, the ICTY said.

In keeping with UN Security Council Resolution adopted in 2010, the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals (MICT) took over the ICTY responsibilities concerning the supervision of sentence serving on July 1, 2013.

Lukic is the second individual convicted before the ICTY to be transferred to a third country to serve his sentence, Bosnian media released.
