Stoudmann: Serbia is engine of favorable processes in region

BELGRADE - Serbia is an engine taking regional processes in a favorable direction, Gerard Stoudmann, OSCE chairperson-in-office special representative on the Western Balkans, said in Belgrade Tuesday.

During a meeting he had with Serbian parliament Speaker Nebojsa Stefanovic, Stoudmann congratulated Serbia for progress made in the European integration process and successful reform processes, the Serbian parliament said in a release.

Stoudmann has recently assumed the office and will hold throughout 2014 and 2015, during the Swiss and Serbian OSCE presidency.

Stoudmann outlined the priorities of his mandate, which focus on support for regional processses aimed at ensuring overall stability and development.

Stefanovic expressed his support for the priorities, “particularly concerning regional coordination and focus on practical and measurable results in cooperation, bearing in mind the delicate nature of the current issues.”

Stefanovic pointed to Serbia's intensive activities based on a priority to improve regional relations, the release said.

The two officials stressed the importance of coordinated parliamentary cooperation and inter-governmental activities within the OSCE, something that the Serbian parliament is fully committed to at both bilateral and multilateral levels.

The meeting was attended by Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia, Ambassador Peter Burkhard, the release said.
