Over 1000 are the Victims of the Syrian Army Offensive in Eastern Ghouta

The number of civilian casualties in the 20-day offensive of the Syrian army in the rebel enclave Eastern Ghouta exceeded 1,000, said the Syrian Center for Human Rights Watch quoted by the Bulgarian National Radio.

Among the victims are more than 200 children, thousands are injured. Much of the dead were from the city of Duma, surrounded by the regime's forces, as well as the nearby town of Harasta. Rebels denied reports of the army's success, but state television broadcasts a report of the captured territories.

On February 24, the UN Security Council demanded a ceasefire, but Syrian President Bashar Assad continued the offensive. The ultimate goal is to cleanse Damascus's surroundings from rebel groups blamed for bombing the Syrian capital.
