Agrokor Ex-Boss Todoric Extradited to Croatia

Ivica Todorovic, former owner of the hugely indebted food giant Agrokor, was extradited to Croatia from London on Wednesday evening.

Todoric was transferred to Croatia via a regular flight line of Croatia Airlines accompanied by plainclothes policemen. 

Although the event was supposed to be secret, journalists were informed about it, and some had already tracked him on the flight. Some of them were accidentally on the same plane, having attended the World Travel Market in London.

He was arrested on Wednesday, having been assigned to pre-trial detention.

Many experts said they doubted an indictment would be issued soon given the complexity of the case and the number of witnesses involved.

Todoric is under investigation for various types of fraud while he was the owner of Agrokor, which he founded in 1976.

An investigation by the Zagreb state attorney's office was launched in October last year. The results of a financial review of the whole Agrokor group and its mother company showed that, instead of a reported profit of 160 million euros in 2015, the group had actually run up losses of 480 million euros.

The extradition came after Judge Duncan Ouseley in London's High Court handed down his verdict in October 25, making the first-instance verdict from April 23 final.

The founder and owner of the ailing Croatian company turned himself into police in London in November 2017.

He was promptly arrested under a European arrest warrant issued against him, interrogated before Westminster Magistrates Court, and released later on bail for 100,000 pounds sterling.
