Serbia's new economy minister to be elected on Wednesday

BELGRADE - Serbian Parliament Speaker Maja Gojkovic convened a special parliament sitting for Wednesday, September 3, with the election of new economy minister and his oath-taking as the only item on the agenda.

The government has sent a proposal to the parliament that Zeljko Sertic, manager and businessman from Novi Sad and current president of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, be elected as new economy minister.

Sertic was born in the village of Secanj in northern Serbia in 1967, and he graduated from the Faculty of Industrial Management at Union University in Belgrade.

He was a director of several enterprises. He co-founded Gotra doo, a trade company based in Novi Sad, in 1990, and Gotrex, based in Vienna, in 1992.

Sertic is a member of the Serbian Progressive Party, leading party in the ruling coalition. He serves as chairman of the party's council for small and medium enterprises and is head of its commercial activities office.
