PSD's Sova: If Victor Ponta becomes Romania's president, the Prime Minister won't be from PSD
Social Democratic Party's (PSD) mouthpiece Dan Sova on Wednesday told a press conference held in Alba Iulia that, in case Victor Ponta becomes Romania's president, he won't choose the Prime Minister from among the PSD members, but he would prefer a technocrat instead. However, he had no favorite politician in mind for the spot yet.
'I said it before that we are professional politicians and we do things one at a time. However, if the incumbent Prime Minister becomes president of Romania, and I hope to see this happen, then we'll see. What is for sure is that Victor Ponta stays head of the Executive until December 22, when Mr Basescu's tenure ends, after which we will vest him in Parliament and he will appoint a Prime Minister that benefits from the support of the majority in Parliament,' Dan Sova stated.
The PSD's spokesman also maintained that the 'paradigm' should go through a complete revision, so that the 'story with the president who appoints in daytime whomever he dreams at night at the Cotroceni Palace' would no longer be possible.
Asked whether there is even the slightest chance that someone would be appointed Prime Minister from outside the existing coalition, Dan Sova reminded what Victor Ponta said at some point, namely that, in case he became president, 'the Prime Minister wouldn't be selected from among the PSD members,' specifying that he shared this opinion.
'We must choose, to the extent possible, a technocrat, an independent, to be the head of the Executive, so that he/she will be to gather all politicians around him in the government. This would be a very good thing,' said Sova. AGERPRES
