Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra thrills Washington audience
BELGRADE - The Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra held their third concert within the U.S. tour in the Strathmore Music Hall in Washington and the audience stood up for the performance of the national anthems of the U.S. and Serbia at the beginning of the event, and called for an encore at the end of the concert.
According to a release issued by the Philharmonic Orchestra, the concert organised after the performances in Chicago and Cleveland gathered numerous Serbian and American audience, as well as representatives of the U.S. diplomacy.
In addition to Ambassador Michael Kirby who is attending all the Orchestra's concerts on their U.S. tour, former U.S. ambassador in Serbia Mary Warlick also came to see the performance.
Warlick said that she remembers the lovely nights she spent at the Ilija Kolarac Endowment in Belgrade and added that is a great pleasure for her to see the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra perform in the U.S. She also expressed gratitude for the Orchestra's visit, the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra reported.
After the concert, Kirby said that Washington is a unique city and that only the best orchestras perform in the Strathmore Center. The turnout was excellent, as well as the concert in Washington, after Chicago and Cleveland as cities with long music tradition.
Every concert is different due to different acoustics in the halls and the Washington audience gathered many Americans, Kirby said and added that he believes it was excellent that the Legend of Ohrid by Stevan Hristic was one of the pieces performed during the programme. He noted that is great that a piece by a Serbian composer was presented to the U.S. public.
