Serbia pledges USD 50,000 for Palestine recovery

CAIRO -- A Serbian delegation headed by Ambassador Dragan Bisenić took part in a international donor conference in Cairo to raise funds for recovery of Gaza.

Serbia on the occasion promised USD 50,000 worth of aid for recovery of Palestine in 2015.

The international donor conference held in Cairo on Sunday was organized by Egypt and Norway and it gathered representatives of over 70 countries, the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The gathering was addressed by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Egyptian President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi, who underscored the need for reconstruction of destroyed areas in Gaza where the estimated value of damages adds up to USD 4 billion.

Serbia has been developing various projects with Palestine for years now, including the substantial scholarships for Palestinian students at universities in Serbia, which is another mode of assistance which Palestine appreciates very much, the ministry said.
