FSS files appeal to UEFA over three-point deduction penalty
BELGRADE - President of the Serbian Football Association (FSS) Tomislav Karadzic has said that the FSS has filed an appeal to the European football union UEFA over the three points taken away from Serbia following the abandonment of its Euro 2016 qualifier match with Albania in Belgrade last month.
"An appeal will be sent to UEFA's appeals body today, and we will attempt to bring down the decision that was made and to arrive at a better solution," Karadzic said at an assembly meeting of the football association of the western Serbia regions on Tuesday.
The Euro 2016 qualifier between Serbia and Albania in Belgrade on October 14 was abandoned after a brawl was caused on the pitch by the appearance above it of a drone carrying a flag with a map depicting the so-called ‘Greater Albania', a nationalist project that would include parts of Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia and Greece.
UEFA later awarded Serbia a 3-0 win, but also deducted the hosts three points because a number of supporters invaded the pitch as the situation escalated.
