Prime Minister Victor Ponta announced on the opening of the Government meeting on Tuesday he will nominate Romania's ambassador to the EU Mihnea Motoc as the new minister of foreign affairs.

'I will send the nomination for the new foreign minister to the President today. I have discussed with Mr. [incumbent Foreign Minister Teodor] Melescanu, too, and I will propose Ambassador Mihnea Motoc to be the new foreign minister. I think it's a very good message, considering also the importance we place on our relation on the European level,' Ponta said at the Victoria Palace.

He added he will also nominate a minister of culture, but did not make any names.

The prime minister thanked Teodor Melescanu, who tendered his resignation. Ponta appreciated he 'did everything he could in one week.'

'We definitely must — you know I support this — change the law and change the logistic part, taking into account the demographic evolutions,' the PM added.AGERPRES
