BELGRADE - The regular congress of the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS), to be held on December 14, will not be a congress of conflicts, division and disintegration of the party, but a congress of changes, SPS leader Ivica Dacic said on Sunday.

The goals of the party will remain the same, and we will change so that we would not be replaced, Dacic told Belgrade-based TV Pink.

As Serbia is changing so must the SPS, and make changes in terms of its program, organization and officials, he said.

Dacic said that the party's image also needs a revamp, adding that the only problem of the Socialists is to harmonize the changes within the party.

Dacic denied any connection with the arrested businessman Goran Percevic, with whom he started his political career.

He pointed out that Percevic left the party after October 5, 2000 and embarked on a career in business.

Interkomerc owner Percevic was remanded in 30-day custody on November 18 on suspicion of involvement in multi-million fraud in Univerzal Banka.
