Mihajlovic: Morava Airport to open for civil aviation

KRALJEVO - The Ladjevci-Morava military-civilian airport in central Serbia will open for regular civilian flight, Zorana Mihajlovic, Serbian deputy prime minister and minister for construction, transport and infrastructure, said on Wednesday.

The revival of this airport is important for tourism and economic development in central and southern Serbia, she said. "A lot has already been done in terms of the airport," said Mihajlovic, adding that the airport's goal is to obtain the necessary equipment, and also to get its first operator.

She stated that Belgrade Airport Nikola Tesla will provide additional equipment to Morava Airport, and the Civil Aviation Directorate will do its part of the work so that civilian flights could be realized this year.

The spatial plan allows the airport to expand as much as needed, said Mihajlovic.

Assistant Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zoran Ilic said that the airport can already operate in Category C, meaning that it can be used by aircrafts type 737, Airbus 319, Airbus 320, which have between 120 and 180 seats.

Ilic said that the airport should first become operational and than be offered to airlines.

So far, the first phase of works that are to enable it for civil aviation has been completed, the runway has been rebuilt and a new control tower, the terminal and the technical-economic bloc have been built making it possible for light and cargo aircrafts carrying up to 20 tons to take off.

So far, around EUR 30 million have been invested in the reconstruction of the airport.

Asked by reporters whether the United Arab Emirates will invest in the airport, Mihajlovic said that the sources of funding are yet to be considered, adding for now...
