Prison bill would pave way for Savvas Xeros release
Justice Minister Nikos Paraskevopoulos on Tuesday put up for public consultation a prison reform bill that will allow convicted November 17 terrorist Savvas Xeros, among others, to be released from prison.
The bill calls for the closure of C-type maximum-security prisons as well as the release of inmates who are disabled or ill. This last clause would benefit Xeros, 53, who has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.
Xeros was one of three siblings convicted 10 years ago for participating in the terrorist group?s activities. He was sentenced to serve five consecutive life sentences plus an additional 25 years for taking part in robberies and five assassinations.
