Von der Leyen says visit to Belgrade sign of her belief in Serbia's EU future

BELGRADE - European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said in Belgrade on Friday her visit to Serbia as part of her fourth trip to the Western Balkans was a very clear sign of her belief in Serbia's EU future.

Von der Leyen was speaking at a joint press conference with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.

Asked by a reporter whether she had discussed with Vucic the relationship between Serbia and Russia and what she thought about a Serbian delegation's participation in the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia, von der Leyen responded that, before hosting her in Belgrade, Vucic had also hosted the PMs of Greece and Poland and that that spoke for itself.

She noted that her visit to Serbia was a very clear sign that she believed that Serbia's future - a future of common values - was in the EU, where she noted the country would exercise all membership rights.
