New Left recommends head of privacy watchdog for president

Greek opposition party New Left recommended Christos Rammos, the head of the country's independent privacy watchdog ADAE, for President of the Republic, when the term of the incumbent, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, expires in March 2025.

"A civil servant, a judge, a man who vigorously defended the institutions, who inspired confidence in the rule of law, who did not remain silent in the face of the unprecedented wiretapping scandal," party leader Alexis Haritsis told reporters outside the Parliament. 

"People are losing their trust in institutions, the rule of law, and justice. And the responsibility lies with the Mitsotakis government …The government, which shows unprecedented arrogance and contempt for democratic institutions. It is time for the left and progressive forces to give a resounding response," he added.
