Why do Greeks hate Jews more than any other EU country?
10,000 Greeks were polled in June 2015 by the Anti-Defamation League. The results were shocking, with 90% of Greeks agreement with the statement “Jews have too much power in the business world” and 85% agreeing that “Jews have too much power in international finance markets.” 70% said that “Jews stil talk too much about what happened to them in the Holocaust” and 51% said that Jews don’t care about what happens to anyone but their own kind.”
Greece surpassing Iran and slightly behind Turkey as far as anti-Semitic views are concerned. In total, 67% of Greek respondents agreed with the majority of a list of anti-Semitic statements included in the survey.France and Germany have noted a decrease in anti-Semitic attitudes following the recent attacks on Jews.
Despite the high anti-semitism recorded in Greece, the country hasn’t seen anti-Jewish violence that has cropped up in other “friendlier” countries with Greeks prefering to express their anger against Jews as bigotry without violence. Stereotypes prevail with a majority of 11 statements.
The statements reflect anti-Semitic viewpoints frequently aired in Greece that show that stereotypes and bigotry remain in tact in the birthplace of democracy.
