12 tourists in Egypt killed, mistaken for terrorists

Two Mexicans and 10 others were killed in Egypt after they were attacked by the country’s security forces in the western desert. A statement released by the Egyptian interior ministry said a joint policy and military force was chasing terrorist elements in the area when it “accidentally engaged four four-wheel drives belonging to a Mexican tourist group.”

12 tourists had been killed and ten were injrued in the shooting incident that took place at the bahariya oasis around 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto said on social media that “Mexico condemns these acts against our citizens and has called on the government of Egypt for a thorough investigation of what happened.”
