SD announces motion to oust Culture Minister Simoniti

Ljubljana – Former Culture Minister Dejan Prešiček from the opposition Social Democrats (SD) announced on Friday that a motion to oust Culture Minister Vasko Simoniti would be filed before 8 February, Culture Day. He said this would probably be one of the biggest presents to Slovenian culture for the holiday.

Opposition files motion to oust labour minister

Ljubljana – Four opposition parties have filed a motion to oust Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities Minister Janez Cigler Kralj over his work during the epidemic and the ministry’s decision to grant funds to an NGO with close links to the minister. They need 46 votes in the 90-member National Assembly to succeed.

Committee endorses Left’s amendments to STA act

Ljubljana – The parliamentary Culture Committee voted 10:8 in favour of amendments to the act governing the STA that would require the STA English Service to report on the work of NGO as a legal requirement, amidst warnings that the STA has still not received overdue payment from the government for the performance of public service.

DeSUS MPs contribute signatures for proposal to oust govt

Ljubljana – All four MPs of the Pensioners’s Party (DeSUS), which left the government coalition in December, have contributed their signatures in support of a motion of no-confidence in the Janez Janša government, DeSUS leader Karl Erjavec said after a six-hour talk with the MPs on Tuesday. He said the motion would be filed to parliament on Friday.

SDS, LMŠ and DeSUS lose ground in Delo poll

Ljubljana – The ruling Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS) continues to lead the field in the latest poll commissioned by the newspaper Delo, but has lost ground for the second month running. The LMŠ party of ex-PM Marjan Šarec and the DeSUS of the aspiring PM-designate Karl Erjavec have likewise slipped back amid growing voter discontent.

Opposition to table motion of no-confidence in govt in mid-January

Ljubljana – An informal coalition of centre-left opposition parties will table a motion of no-confidence in the Janez Janša government on 15 January, Karl Erjavec, the leader of the Pensioners’ Party (DeSUS), who has been tipped for prime minister-designate, announced on Tuesday.

MPs decide stimulus package cannot be challenged in referendum

Ljubljana – The National Assembly decided in a 50:16 vote on Wednesday that the latest corona crisis stimulus package, passed late last night, cannot be put to a referendum. The decision means that the law was published in the Official Gazette Wednesday evening and will take effect on Thursday.
